Rest Awareness on the Stillness of the Body

Accessing stillness through the door of the body allows you to experience your changeless essence. The first step is to stop moving and rest your attention on your body. Become aware of being still. The stillness of your body becomes the support for your moving mind to rest. We may think that letting the mind wander all over the place is giving it freedom. But we are unaware that what is actually driving this restless moving mind is our unacknowledged dissatisfaction. This movement expresses the pain of disconnection from the source within. The mind that wanders, searching, will never find permanent satisfaction. So in meditation, we let that mind rest.
Resting your awareness on the stillness of your body does not guarantee that all thoughts or sensations will stop arising. They will still arise, but following your thoughts or elaborating on them will cease to interest you. As you continue to sit, you will connect with the stillness of being. Experiencing the stillness of being includes your body but is not limited to the body. You discover a sense of being that is unbounded—a sense of all-pervasive spaciousness. The door of stillness of the body opens you to this genuine refuge, the space of being in which we are all connected.
