A Doorway to the Openness of Being (2/5)

It is easy to enjoy the spacious experience of looking out at the horizon when we are near the ocean, or stopping to admire the panoramic view from the highway when we are on a road trip. But how do we feel when we encounter silence in the midst of a conversation with a friend or at the side of a loved one who is ill and unable to communicate? What happens when we find ourselves staring at the blank computer screen before composing our thoughts for an important e-mail? How do we react to the space that opens up within us when we lose our train of thought? Or our beloved pet? Or our aging parent?
