Honoring Native Peoples on Thanksgiving Day

For many of us, Thanksgiving is a time to reconnect with family and acknowledge the many blessings in our lives. What is often lost in these celebrations is the inaccurate and harmful narrative many of us are taught about this holiday’s history and origin.

Our school textbooks tell this story from the perspective of the white European colonizers who conquered Native land, and overlook the racial violence taking place alongside, and long after, this constructed event.
