The Dukkha of Resisting Change

To realize that life itself is change we only have to look at ourselves and the people closest to us. This will provide more information than we need. But we don’t wish to see this, and the denial causes dukkha — which translates as “suffering.” Dukkha ranges from torment and agony to dissatisfaction, distress, agitation, and annoyance. Every variety reflects a mental disturbance that arises when we substitute reality as-it-is for what we wish it to be.
